More than ever before, creativity is vital. The "golf tourism" sector needs to find new ways to continue attracting golfers from Northern Europe. Competition from emerging golf destinations has been one of the main factors that have contributed to the loss of the Algarve's market share and that of Portugal in general. Pricing does not always make the difference, but innovative ways of attracting and welcoming players from these markets do, as well as the way we serve them. We at Golfocus believe that, to a certain extent, we contribute towards this objective and it will continue the high standard of its Golf Algarve magazine as well as creating new features that vividly illustrate the quality and beauty of the golf courses in our midst. This is an investment that makes sense, especially now, even if it means some financial sacrifice.

In this August edition we complete our series of articles on the "Olympics and Golf" by Hugo Ribeiro, taking us to golf's return to the Olympics in 2016. In "Feature Interview" we once again highlight Sarah-Jane Eaves and her second triumph, namely as best student at the Professional Golfers Academy based at The Belfry.

The Golfocus tournaments have been constant occasions of camaraderie and well-being throughout the Algarve, in the company of other golf aficionados. The Golf Algarve League championship continues unabated with its outstanding momentum and four of the stages have now been completed. The Golf Algarve League Cup was played at three fine courses and culminated in a win by The Vilamoura Golf Academy team. During this summer and autumn we are holding our well-known and acclaimed annual tournaments plus the first staging of the Monte da Quinta - Porto versus Manchester match.

It is by means of dynamic initiatives, such as the launching and continuation of golf tournaments that involve ever increasing numbers of golfers that we can help create a favourable environment to improve our sport, and also to stimulate general interest on the part of the tourism market sector in the best golf destination in the world - the Algarve.
